All My Ex's Live In Texas

Ok, 0 of my ex's live in Texas... But how fun is that commercial and song? I think I need to download the whole song so I can sing more than that one line!
Back to the title though. I was in Texas last week! I spent the first few days in Dallas for work and then hopped over to Austin for the rest of the week to see a great friend of mine, her husband, and her dogs! Here are a few Instagram shots for your viewing pleasure!
My friend is building a house. Walking through the pretty new model inspired my stop procrastinating and finally get the nerve to paint my kitchen cabinets! That's on the agenda this week. Stay tuned. Till then sing with me: "Alllll my ex's live in Texas!"

"Writer's" Block

I have a fun rambling post in mind... But it has nothing to do with DIY stuff. And I've been neglecting to post about that as much. Therefore, I feel pressure to create something just to blog about it. And, aside from food I've made, I haven't created anything in weeks. Since I haven't DIY'd I have been keeping quiet.

I may still write my rambling post. But for now, I'll leave you with clues about another project I've been working on for a bit now...

Unexpected Memories

I have a MacBook in addition to my work laptop, iPad, and iPhone. Since the iPad and other laptop came into my life I don't use my old MacBook for much since it's gotten pretty slow. I did use PhotoBooth recently though for the first time in a couple of years. When I opened it up I saw all of these pictures I have no memory of taking! It's no surprise to anyone that I LOVE pictures! Here are a couple and the memories they brought back:

Apparently Zulu stepped on something to take this one or I was fake sleeping and took it? No memory. What I do remember was this night.
This was taken in my guest room before it was anything.
Zulu and I went over to the house with extra blankets, her bed, Cheerios, instant coffee, and stuff to rip up the carpet

I did all of this that night.
The next day I pulled out patio furniture, coffee, and Cheerios and had breakfast in my living room.
Then I went back upstairs and painted the floors
While Z put herself back to bed

It was fun to find a picture of our first night here at the house. It wasn't scary at all and somehow I managed to get 9 hours of sleep in a strange bedroom on the floor!

I found this one too. Check out the brown straight hair? I kinda like it!
And this one. When I have a really really long day I get undressed, put on that fluffy robe, and have a snack on the couch. I remember this day I discovered Zulu loved ice cream too!

This post has really no point... But I love random memories and being surprised when I find them!

A Sign of the Times

My fourth of July party went well! Seeing my whole family together again was amazing! I work for an amazing company that let me take a little time off to spend with everyone while my favorite army man was in town. We did touristy stuff downtown and just enjoyed each other.

This is a shot of me with my amazing brothers on my deck on the 4th. As you can see I got the lattice painted! I frantically tried to get as much as possible done before the party. The grill in the background was bought 2 nights before and was assembled very shortly before the big day!
But here's the thing... The lattice is painted here.
But you can clearly tell where I ran out of time to do a second coat here.
And that I am too busy with other stuff to finish it...
When have I ever left a painting project hanging?

Every Tip You'd Ever Need to Get Organized!

I invite you to view another oldish post that I forgot to publish! My organization fit has finally ended. I've organized everything humanly possible in this house!

My biggest projects were the pantry and my unfinished basement room. I sucked it up and got both of them done! Here's an in progress shot of the pantry...
Just to remind you of what I started with:
(Can you tell I LOVE Cheerios, oatmeal, and almonds?)

Ok, now that you remember let me show you how I fixed it...
I gutted that pantry! I also bought some clear bins to keep like items together. As I gutted it I stuck things in the bins and threw out ancient things I found:
In case it's too hard to tell the coffee expired in 2001. I tried to make it just to see how it tasted. OH MY WORD... Don't ever make coffee that expired 11 years ago. And don't be brave like me and try to drink it. :)

Little Things Making Me Happy These Days

Know what's awesome? Logging on to write a post and finding 4 that you've almost finished just waiting. So... enjoy one of them :)

My hound sporting the E.T. look after coming in from the rain...

Researching random things to the point of exhaustion because I didn't pay attention in school the first time...

Fresh flowers on my table...
Knowing that everything about me was intentional and is loved...
Seeing how many of you visit me while sipping my morning coffee...
Wearing a white sundress, watering my flowers as the sun sets with my pal...

Rediscovering good old country music (you might have realized this from my "every mile a memory" post the other day):

I'm just plain happier lately. I don't know if it's the job, people in my life, summer, or what it is... But I looked at my Facebook wall and every status I've had for weeks starts with the words "I love."

So, hold on tight and embrace life... You only get to live it once :)

Independence Day Awesomeness

My soldier brother is in town this Independence Day! I'm so excited to have all of my brothers together with my parents! I'm hosting the second annual family party at my house (I have a killer view of the fireworks from my back yard) this week. I started prepping yesterday. I started off by making cake pops minus the pop. :) Want to know how to make some yourself?

First I used this recipe/tutorial and adapted it. If you like to get really messy and make yours chocolatey go there. If you like Starbucks birthday cake cake pops stay here! These are SUPER CLOSE!

Buy a cake mix of your choice. I bought classic yellow. Mix and prepare it as normal. Line your baking pan with tin foil that you've sprayed with cooking spray.
Delight in the fact that Eggland's Best also happens to share the same initials as you :)
Cook the cake just like normal:
Here's where the tutorial link and I differ. I don't like to get all messy. I have a Kitchenaid. I'm special like that! Here's a screenshot I took of when her blog got a little too messy for me!
I, on the other hand, dumped the cake into the mixer and busted out my frosting. I used classic white. Put about 1/2 of the frosting in with your cake and mix it up.

Once it's all mixed up you can use a mellon baller to scoop out the right size of batter to roll with your hands (still messy but not as  bad) onto a foil lined baking sheet.
Put them in the freezer to firm them up. They're good to go after about 15 min.
Then get ready to decorate! I used almond bark instead of candy melts. You can use either. If you tint it use the gel instead of liquid food coloring or the bark will harden too quickly. I thought I would, but kept mine white instead.
Heat a few at a time so that it doesn't harden up. If it does and reheating doesn't help, add a little shortening to soften it up again. I used a spoon to roll the ball through the almond bark. It came out smoother than a bunch of other things I tried. I imagine it's easier if you use a stick.
And, Here's the completed product!

I also wanted to make a quick drink that would be great in hot weather. I bought two packets of Kool-Aid that seemed like they'd be good together, and some ginger ale.

The colors spread as the cubes melt and taste delicious!
Happy 4th everyone!
