I do my best praying in the shower and the car. Consequently both are places I don't use my phone or iPad and don't watch TV. Hmmm.

Tonight's prayers were said in the shower.
I was thanking God for the people in my life and all of the mercy shown to me. God shows me insane amounts of mercy daily and I have no idea why he loves a sinner like me and I'm SO grateful.  Wow have I been shown mercy and the fact that I'm alive says it all. This girl has made it through the M's. Mono, Malaria, and MRSA and in the last two weeks the non-M's of food poisoning and Strep throat and I'm still ticking. I just wanted to recognize the people that help me stay ticking.

-Tonight I was praying for the nameless cab driver in Celebration Florida. 1 year ago I was staying in the Bohemian Hotel there for work when I became really sick (with what I later found out was MRSA). I ended up giving in and realizing something was taking over my body and I should listen to my fever and get help. I called down to the front desk for a cab to take me to the emergency room. The hotel sent me in a Town Car driven by a hotel employee whose name I unfortunately do not remember. This guy was so merciful. He was so worried about me on the drive over. He gave me his cell phone number and told me that even if the hotel's car service was done for the night to call and he'd be sure to pick me up after I was done at the hospital. I went to the emergency room scared and alone. When I was finally done I called him. He came back and picked me up and drove me to CVS and waited an hour while my many prescriptions were filled and I limped around buying bandages, hand sanitizer, and ice packs. He told me he'd been studying for his paramedic exam while he waited for my call and that nobody supported him in going to school for something that didn't pay well like that. I often wonder how the exam went and hope that he hung in there. When we got back to the hotel he refused to let me pay him for any of his services that night (or the next day when he drove me to the airport when I went home sick). He was one of the most merciful people I've ever met and I thank God for him.
-I had a nurse in the emergency room that night who held my hand and listened to me sob while they cut open and drained several spots on my body. She tried to distract me and started talking to me. Somehow it came out that my doctor was from Africa and knew the orphanage that I'd stayed at there and she was from Colombia and was asking all about my Colombian best friend. I appreciate her mercy and letting me scream and taking the time to know me still!
-I came home to my parents house from that trip. My mom had to give me sponge baths. My dad had to practically carry me in to the doctors office because I had so many sores I couldn't walk. I kept them awake with my crying and moaning until the doctor's finally found the right combination of pain medications. My parents are SO merciful.
-2 weeks ago I was on vacation from work and went out to eat with my boyfriend. I got food poisoning. Within hours I was throwing up. He insisted on being there for me holding back my hair, offered to brush my teeth for me, put me to bed (with a bucket, no less), and slept downstairs to make sure I was ok through the night. When he heard me get up and get sick again he was there for me. The fact that I found a man as merciful as my father, that nurse, and that cab driver is amazing to me.

These acts of mercy make me self reflect on the mercy and kindness I've shown to others. I doubt anyone across the country is thinking back on something I've done for them and thanking God for me tonight. It makes me think about who I want to be and I thought I'd put this ramble down in print.

I also want you to know that no act of kindness goes unnoticed. Someone across the country could be thanking God for you tonight, so keep doing what you're doing. You never now who could really appreciate it!

(PS. Sorry again for the loooong delay in posting!)

It's Been SO Long!

I almost don't know where to start! I have my Christmas decorations up, bought a new chair and a barrel (yes barrel) for the living room, and found myself a personal life (which you might have already seen if you follow my Instagram feed to the right). Life is crazy good right now and I can't wait to share the joy, show you the barrel, etc. But for right now...

My birthday is tomorrow. Scary bucket list tipping 29 is here. I welcome it with joy. This year will be different from any other. Thank you for joining me on this journey :) SOOOO many of you lurk here each week (and I wish you'd just come out of hiding and leave me a comment or two!) and I appreciate you!

Getting My Stitch Fix Take 3

There's nothing like this box to get my heart racing!
There's always a free gift in the box. Item #1 was these earrings.

They're really pretty, but get tangled in my curls, so they went back.
Item #2 is my current favorite shirt. Words can't express how perfect this shirt is! I love that it isn't a button up and is silk instead of flannel! It fits perfect. I was going to a farm to roam through corn and hold wild animals. I'd tried on a billion things, and this came 5 min. before I had to leave!
This is it on my way out:
And in action (I hate/fear birds, so this sign was perfect)!
Item #3 was this bird tank (also seen on StitchFix's blog):
Pretty appropriate given my bird fear huh? I love that it's also silk and I can wear it fall, winter, spring, and summer!
I also get dorky pleasure from the side zipper:
And here it is with a pair of boots on my way out for brunch today!
And I wore it to vote!
Item #4 was this super cute shirt which is also featured on the blog. I love it.
But, it fits a little strange. The part where the purple and stripes meet fits weird and the shirt moved weird on me because of it. It's too bad because I love it... And I love the sleeves!
It's cuter off of me than on!
Item #5 was this super super cute wrap dress. Unfortunately, it fit funky.
 So it went back.
This was my favorite fix EVER! I almost kept everything (it would've only been $165 because of the 25% keep everything discount), but wasn't sure if the dress would ever fit right, when I'd ever feel like wearing the earrings, and if the striped shirt's funky feel would bother me too much.
My stylist Margaret read every note about what I was hoping to get (I had noted something from the blog I liked, and I think that's why she went out of her way to find me others featured there) and really did an amazing job!

Can You Paint Mosaic Tile??

This is what I googled and I only found ugly answers, so I set out to find out the answer. Why would I want to paint the amazing tile I laid??? Well I still think I want white kitchen cabinets once the grey love wears off. It would really lighten up the room. But, my much-loved backsplash has 0 white in it:
I have some left over. So I pulled out some leftover satin white pant and a craft brush to experiment. 1 minute later this is what I had.
It's super subtle and blends way better with the white background right?!

When I try it in real life you'll be the first to know, but it sure looks like the answer to my google inquiry was yes!

Downward Facing Dog

Doing yoga with a dog nearby is NOT relaxing...

(Oh and please forgive the complete absence of makeup... But it was too funny to not share!)

Chalkboard Painting Pumpkins

I have to be careful with my Instagram feed (you saw it over there ------> on the right, right?) Now when I share my pictures it's like a blog post spoiler! You may have seen this one:
And guessed what I'd blog about! My parents dog is staying with me for a bit. I still have Zulu, no worries! Well me and the hounds waked the quick mile down to the farm stand and bought these guys. I used this leftover chalkboard paint and a foam brush to paint them:
This is after the first coat and it was dry within 5 min.

I let them dry for a couple of hours before writing on them. Then I had to figure out where they should live. Here's the hound showing them and the mums off:

They finally landed in the dining room

And It's Done

The last step in finishing the guest room was adding a little more wall art. There's no rhyme or reason to what I added, except it's things that make me smile and people that will use this room:
Once I had a vision of what I wanted to do I pulled out all of the frames I thought might work and laid them out in different directions to find the best layout. I wanted the pictures to jump off the wall so I wanted the frames to mostly be plain old white. Once I got them on the wall I gave the dingy looking frames a quick coat of the same paint as the wall so they really blended in.
It is just perfect:
Time to move on to a new room of the house :)

The Up Side of Being OCD

I love being organized and take it pretty far. I hit Gap Outlet a few days back with a friend and got a pile of clothes!
The good thing about having a closet that's organized in color order like this is you know what you have a lot of:
I need to simmer down on my blues and greens!
And I think I'm officially ok in black and white striped tanks!
Being OCD has its advantages!

Monster Smoothie for Zombies

I know that I've told you about the green Monster Smoothie  that I love. The problem with making these is that I'm a total zombie in the morning. Seriously... I spend about 15 min. roaming around trying to figure out what I'm even awake for. I decided I need to simplify this and give a few min. back to my morning!
As you'll recall the smoothie includes 1/2 a cup of fat free greek yogurt, 1 cup of some kind of milk (I use almond), 4 cups of spinach, 1 banana, and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter.

I've also added a tablespoon of chia seeds to the smoothie. This thing is packed full of all kinds of things that are good for me!
 I made frozen yogurt cubes: 2 cubes= 1/2 a cup
I made almond milk cubes: 8 cubes= 1 cup

After everything was frozen I added the cubes to a ziplock bag with my chia seed, and the peanut butter and sliced banana.
Now when I'm a zombie in the morning I just have to add the ziplock bag and a package of baby spinach (one bag, or plastic container is about 4 cups) to the blender and I'm done!

I also have been focusing on my body a lot. This has meant I've started seeing a chiropractor (more on that another time) to fix lots of car accident issues. This is expensive! To counteract the expense I have to bring my lunch. This has been hard for me because my zombie self can barely handle making coffee in the morning and making my lunch would probably make me 45 min. late for work! So- here is my way to keep on budget and on time:
I hope these zombie tips help if you are anything like me! And speaking of zombies... Who else is excited for fall?? It gives me an excuse to listen to one of my favorite songs:
Yes, seriously.
